Master performer, teacher, clinician
Grammy® Award winning soprano Laura Claycomb has firmly established herself as one of the finest operatic coloratura sopranos of her generation, best known for her ethereal high notes, impeccable musicianship, and dramatic stage presence. Ms. Claycomb has appeared repeatedly with the Paris Opera, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Théâtre de la Monnaie, the London Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Le Concert d’Astrée, and the Cleveland Orchestra. Further career highlights range from engagements at the Festivals of Salzburg, Bregenz, Mito and Lucerne, to the BBC Proms and the title role of Linda di Chamounix at Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
Laura Claycomb began her career as an “Adler Fellow” at the San Francisco Opera Center around the same time as the late Mika Shigematsu, after dual degrees at Southern Methodist University in Foreign Languages and Vocal Performance. Laura won, among others, the Silver Medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition, the Pegasus Prize at the Spoleto Festival Italy, the Operettepreis at the International Belvedere Competition in Vienna, the Maria Callas Award at the Dallas Opera and a Grammy Award for Mahler’s 8th Symphony with the San Francisco Symphony. Her operatic repertoire includes more than 50 titles from Monteverdi to Messiaen. She made her European debut in Geneva as Giulietta in I Capuleti e I Montecchi; she went on to perform on the most prestigious international stages, in opera, concert and recital. Her extensive discography includes more than 20 titles including anthologies of works by Mahler, Berlioz, Ligeti, Handel, Pacini, Meyerbeer, various bel canto composers, and her latest album with guitarist Marc Teicholz, Open Your Heart.
Laura has been a consultant and master teacher for the Bolshoi Opera”’s Young Artist Program for over a decade, and has a private voice studio at her home in Turin, Italy. She also teaches at the Centre For Operatic Studies in Sulmona, Italy (CoSI) and has been an Artist in Residence at University of Texas (Austin). She has taught Masterclasses all over the world: Associazione Tito Gobbi, Bolshoi Opera, Opera Colorado, Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera, and Loyola, Baylor, Texas State University, Southern Methodist University, University of Southern California and Southwestern University. She resides for over a decade with her Italian husband and children in Turin, Italy.
