Stage Director

Biography

Shintaro Kobayashi graduated from Waseda University in the Faculty of Letters, Department of French Literature. After studying drama at Carnegie Mellon University, he earned a master’s degree in arts management from Heinz College, School of Public Policy & Management. He subsequently worked for a classical music agent and entertainment company in New York, wrote about performing arts in general, focusing on classical music, and also translated Japanese plays into English.  He will be joining TSP for the first time this summer, circling back to his love of theater, to take over the staging of the Opera Scenes Program that his wife Mika Shigematsu used to do before her untimely death.  Shintaro has kept TSP, his late wife’s creation, alive and well through a pandemic; a program he hopes to develop further as she had wanted.
